Adam and Andy's Woodhill Hall Wedding
So I made the journey up to Woodhill Hall once again to shoot Andy and Adam’s wedding day. This was going to be one of those laid back, care free weddings that I've become to know well at Woodhill Hall over the years.
I first heard from Andy back in 2017 who had seen my details on the Woodhill Hall website as I’m recommended there. Without meeting and purely in contact via email Andy and Adam decided to book me. They wanted no hassle and a relaxed day and wanted a photographer to match. Well that is definitely me!
It was one of those rare moments on the day of the wedding. I wasn’t driving for hours. I had been staying with my parents close to Otterburn having witnessed my daughter collect her GCSE results in Newcastle (Proud dad moment!!!). I love the drive over the Cheviots to Otterburn. A twisty little road that follows the River Coquet for most of the way.
On arriving at Woodhill Hall, I was met by James, the wedding coordinator. We had a natter and caught up as we’d not seen each other for nearly a year! A quick cuppa later and I was ready to start the day. Now, I hadn’t actually met Andy and Adam prior to the wedding. We’d been in regular contact, just never met for one reason or another. Eventually though I found Andy getting ready in the Darcey Room. A few moments later down in the Entrance Lobby of the hall I bumped into Adam.
There weren’t many guests, maybe 50 or so. So there was lots of room to flit in and out of guests comfortably and lots of room in the Orangery where the ceremony would be taking place.
By now, with most of the guest now in the Hall, Andy had come downstairs. He was in a kilt with the tartan of his grandfather’s regiment. Adam was in a burgundy suit. The colours contrasted each other but worked well together. The best men matched their respective groom.
With everyone in place, everyone got to their feet and welcomed the happy couple up the aisle as they escorted each other hand in hand. Throughout the vows, they never lost eye contact, other than to try and squeeze rings on.
After everything was done and dusted, everyone made their way to the courtyard garden to enjoy drinks. These two were so laid back and up for a laugh. We had a stroll around the grounds and whilst walking down the driveway, grabbed each other’s hands and skipped away out of sight! They were merciless in the micky taking of each other too! It was hilarious. And like a flick of a switch they’d go sensible again, kiss, hug and talk.
Now, I am fortunate in my job as sometimes I get fed by the happy couple. And today was not different. I had the full three course meal! OMG! It was stunning. A cheese soufflé, roast beef to die for and a trio of desserts including the smoothest chocolate mousse I’ve ever had! I could have done with a snooze but I had a job to do! The speeches were nice and simple. Only Adam and Andy spoke, offering thanks to each other’s parents.
And with that everyone headed over to the tepee which was lit with festoon lighting and a fire pit. Snaperazzi had set up a photobooth at one end and down the other the DJ had set up and was ready to go! By 7pm we were ready for the cake cutting and then straight into the first dance. As Erasure’s “Little Respect” piped up, our newlyweds made their way forward, twisted, twirled, swayed, staggered and laughed around the dancefloor. Within 30 seconds they were begging people to join them which they duly did. Now they were in their comfort zone and in a flash Adam was wowing everyone by expertly “flossing”!
I managed to get a night’s worth of shots in the first two songs. These lot were a lot of fun! I had such a blast with Adam, Andy and their guests! And I think the photos reflect that.
